Heigl'sShe's drop dead gorgeous. Tall, blonde and a major star, Katherine Heigl also has a heart the size of Texas. Add to that her tenacious mom, Nancy have been huge supporters of VRC. We all met over a little Pit mix named Sissy who Nancy saved in the final seconds of Sissy's life as she was to be euthanized at a Los Angeles shelter. Sissy was brough here for R & R and that's when Nancy decided she wanted to keep her for herself to add to her own pack of hounds. Since then the Heigls have supported us thru other projects with our Pit Bull spay & neuter event: Understanding the Underdawg. Here we offered the general public FREE spay/neuter, microchipping and training. With the combined efforts of Angel Dogs Foundation (www.angeldogsfoundation.org) and their larger than life and FABULOUS mobile vet clinic AND the Heigls, we were able to spay and neuter 33 Pit Bulls that day! But the highlight for VRC was when Katherine and her family spent a day with the dogs. Getting kisses and making some tails really wag, it was great to see everyone relaxing and enjoying themselves. We feel so fortunate to have met such great women. I mean these are some totally cool chicks!! Society tends to portray celebrities in a certain light and much like the dogs, and the men that we employ here, they are stereotyped. But just like you and me, Katherine and Nancy Heigl are normal dog owners and lovers, who don't mind dirty paws on their clean clothes and let their own hounds romp thru their house and yard sometimes causing a mess. And once again it took just one little spotted dog with a crooked front leg to bring us all together to make a difference. Sissy Girl...you rock!

Visits
are by APPOINTMENT ONLY!! Due to the increasing number of people showing up that have become obsessed fans, stalkers or that think we are a public zoo, we now have to take control of the situation. We are a sanctuary for these animals and the last thing they want or need is someone coming by just to "check them out". We DO NOT give tours or allow the public to walk around like the animal shelter. Visitations are for those adopting, boarding or training only. This is not only for liability reasons, but for the sake of the privacy of these animals that have already had a tough life. Please respect that. If you are interested in visiting, you MUST call and make an appointment. For those of you, who think you're "special" and are planning on just "dropping by", we have a surprise waiting for you at the front gate..... SURPRISE! |
