The following is the
preliminary step in adopting one of our canine orphans. We have been
adopting out animals for several years and find it necessary to ask
the following questions in order to get a better insight into you and
your family and to determine which dog would be best for all involved.
We don't mean to insult anyone or invade anyone's privacy, but judging
from experience, these questions are necessary. If you choose not to
answer any one of the following questions, please feel free to ask us
about it and we will be more than happy to explain the necessity of
that particular question.
OUT OF STATE/COUNTRY ADOPTIONS
We do adopt dogs out of state but the following restrictions apply:
1. Adoption fees
for out of state adoptions are $500.00. This is so that we
can cover traveling expenses and health certificates. Out
of the country fees to be determined.
2. We MUST be able to arrange a home check. This will be done
by one of our shelter reps. If we do not have one in your home
state then one of our reps from our facility will fly with the
dog you are adopting.
3. We will NOT adopt out a dog if there is an existing dog in
your home already. This is because we have no way of knowing
and guaranteeing that both dogs will get along.
4. We DO NOT adopt dogs out of the country due to potential
problems with customs and dogs getting lost during the shipping
process. Now if the potential adopter wants to pay for one of
our representatives to fly with the dog (roundtrip flight) so
that we can assure the dog's safe arrival, then we will make a
possible exception. Of course we know this is probably out of
the question, but that's how much we care about our dogs.
OUR ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS
The following will give you an idea of what we expect in our
potential adopters.
1. Our adoption fee is $150.00. For your adoption
fee, the dog will be spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped
and receive a free lifetime of training sessions with VRC.
2. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered. DO NOT ASK US FOR AN
UN-ALTERED DOG.
3. We are
hesitant to adopt out adult dogs into homes where there are cats or
small dogs. It's just not something we "recommend" though we have
had some successful adoptions in this capacity. We will consider it
if certain circumstances arise, but we do recommend puppies for this
situation.
4. If you live in an apartment, condo, townhouse or home owners
association complex, verify with the management that you are allowed
to have a PIT BULL AND NOT JUST ANY TYPE OF DOG. Many insurance
companies are now denying home owners' insurance companies to rent
to people with this breed of dog.
5. The dogs that are marked "experienced owner only" will ONLY be
adopted to people with prior Pit Bull, Bulldog, Rottweiler, Mastiff
or any types thereof, ownership. We will be able to tell within
five minutes of watching you interact with the dogs, if you know
what you're doing. If you think you're going to "pull a fast one"
on us....just try us :)

Visits
are by APPOINTMENT ONLY!!
Due to the increasing number of people showing up that have become obsessed
fans, stalkers or that think we are a public zoo, we now have to take
control of the situation. We are a sanctuary for these animals and the
last thing they want or need is someone coming by just to "check
them out". We DO NOT give tours or allow the public to walk around
like the animal shelter. Visitations are for those adopting, boarding
or training only. This is not only for liability reasons, but for the
sake of the privacy of these animals that have already had a tough life.
Please respect that.
If you are interested in visiting, you MUST call and make
an appointment.
For those of you, who think you're "special" and are planning
on just "dropping by", we have a surprise waiting for you at
the front gate..... SURPRISE!
